At first it was thought that the whole jetty beam would need total replacement, however further investigation indicated that only the exterior was rotten.

The rotten timber was removed and a new 22 foot piece of oak was pegged to the remaining beam to form a minimalist repair.

In early 2014 during redecoration the west part of the end of the north elevation was found to have major defects. Rotten timber was replaced in sections leaving sound timber where possible.

Further investigations revealed further defects to the south end of the east elevation which were also repaired.
